(Up to [[user-created-add-ons]]) This page discusses options for adding a connector to the Bukobot 12V DC power cable so that you don't need a screwdriver to disconnect the power supply from the printer. ==== Initial Comments: ==== * Many RepRap printers use an [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XLR_connector|XLR]] microphone connector as their DC power connector. XLR connectors are not designed as power connectors for carrying high current loads (up to 20Amps for a dual extruder system). [Although it obviously works well enough for a lot of printers.] * Other RepRap printers use a [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molex_connector|4-pin Molex]] connector due to their use of PC power supplies. Again this connector is not designed to handle very high currents (11Amps max). * If you don't have a hotbed (and dual extruders) your DC current needs should be a LOT lower and so this makes many more connectors feasible. I then used a sharp knife to cut to V's in the sides of the connector as shown below (wasn't difficult). {{:buildrob-XT60-modified-connector.jpg?800}} Now by chance this exactly fits into the space between the two cable clamp screws used by NewtonRob in his existing power supply cover design. The V's prevent the connector moving backwards or forwards when you insert/remove the other connector.
